Internship Program Admissions

Briefly describe in narrative form important information to assist potential applicants in assessing their likely fit with your program. This description must be consistent with the program’s policies on intern selection and practicum and academic preparation requirements:

The Training Program at Illinois State University believes that it is important for the intern applicant to find an internship that matches their training goals. Our Internship in Health Service Psychology is designed to facilitate the development of skills to be an entry-level generalist psychologist. Please review the Intern Training Program information for specifics about our training goals and highlights of our program.

Does the program require that applicants have received a minimum number of hours of the following at the time of application? If Yes, indicate how many:

Total Direct Contact Intervention Hours N Y Amount 300 hour

Total Direct Contact Assessment Hours N Y Amount 0 hours

Describe any other required minimum criteria used to screen applicants:

Applicants for our internship should be degree-seeking candidates in an accredited doctoral program in Counseling Psychology or Clinical Psychology, should have completed the appropriate coursework and supervised practicums, and be certified as ready for the internship by their home departments. We generally look for a minimum of 500 hours of supervised practice, including 300 hours of direct clinical services.

However, given that many practicum training were disrupted by COVID-19, we will focus more on whether applicants have acquired the necessary competencies in order to progress to internship training.

We ask that applicants have their dissertation proposal completed by the ranking deadline. We seek candidates from accredited programs only. Eligibility for employment at Illinois State University requires a background check that verifies that candidates have no criminal record that would preclude employment.
