Letter to Internship Applicants

Dear Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in the Doctoral Internship in Health Service Psychology at Illinois State University’s Student Counseling Services. We have placed our 2018-2019 Internship Brochure on our website to provide a detailed description of our training program and the information you will need to apply. We appreciate your interest and welcome your application.

We offer four full-time, 12-month internships and use the APPIC Application for Psychology Internship (the AAPI Online) and the APPIC Internship Matching Program for selection. The internship is for the calendar year August 1, 2018, through July 31, 2019. We follow APPIC guidelines and abide by the policy that no person at this training facility will solicit, accept, or use any ranking-related information from any intern applicant in our selection process. Our goal is select the best candidates whose goals and interests best match the training we provide.

In addition to receiving excellent training, the compensation for each position will be no less than $29,556.  With passage of the Fair Labor Standards Act, we will be working to implement steps to be in compliance with that law in a manner that continues to protect the status of our interns as employees at our center.  Other benefits include those associated with Administrative/ Professional status such as access to university facilities and services, medical/ dental/vision insurance, and a fully computerized office with LAN and INTERNET access and built-in audio/visual capability.

Our internship program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association, through 2017. We value our accreditation status and are preparing for a site visit in 2017.  We are very committed to training and are very proud of the internship program as it has evolved over its 44 year history. After reviewing our training program, if your interests and goals match the training we provide, we invite you to submit your application.

If you desire additional information, please feel free to call me at (309) 438-7218 or email me at kahays@ilstu.edu . Our current and former interns may serve as additional sources of information for you as you go through your own selection process. I look forward to receiving your application.
